Police have declared an emergency situation under the Public Safety Preservation Act in Russell Island this afternoon.
At approximately 2.15pm, a large bushfire was located on the Island and is currently travelling in a south-westerly direction.

Police have declared an emergency situation under the Public Safety Preservation Act in Russell Island this afternoon.

At approximately 2.15pm, a large bushfire was located on the Island and is currently travelling in a south-westerly direction.

A declaration was made at 3.08pm and the areas affected area is bordered by Centre Road west to Hemp Hill Road South, east from Centre Road to Rampart Drive, and south.

Residents are advised to relocate to Russell Island Community Centre near the ferry terminal if unable to relocate to family and friends.

QFRS crews and a water bombing helicopter are currently working to contain the blaze.
