Attempted armed robbery, Wynnum. 31 July 2016

A man has been charged following the attempted armed robbery of a taxi driver at Wynnum overnight.

It will be alleged, just before midnight, the taxi driver picked up a passenger in Clayfield who asked to be driven to the corner of Primrose Parade and Awoonga Street at Wynnum.

It will further be alleged, on arrival of the destination, the passenger exited the cab and refused to pay the fare. Police will allege the man produced a knife and demanded money however the taxi driver refused.

The passenger then exited the vehicle but was located a short distance away and taken into custody.

A 28-year-old Chermside man has been charged with attempted armed robbery and fare evasion.

He will appear in the Brisbane Magistrates Court today.
