Shots Fired, Redland Bay

Police have arrested a man after he allegedly broke into several houses, fired shots and stole vehicles in Redlands and Moreton Bay overnight.

It will be alleged on Friday night a Toyota Prado was stolen from a house in Mount Gravatt East.

Around 12.20am this morning a male resident went to assist the driver of a damaged Toyota Prado which had stopped in Burmah Boulevard in Redland Bay when he was confronted by a man armed with a firearm. The 33-year-old male resident returned to his house and locked the door.

The armed man kicked in the door of a neighbouring house and confronted a 56-year-old male resident, demanding keys to his car. A struggle ensured during which the resident was hit in the head with a metal object sustaining minor injuries.

The resident forced the man out of the house and a 43-year-old male neighbour began to follow the man when, at the intersection with Isla Avenue, the man turned around and fired a shot at the neighbour. The neighbour was not struck and stopped following the man.

Shortly before 1am the man forced open a glass sliding door and entered a house in Balsam Street. He located a set of keys before stealing a Mitsubishi Triton parked in the garage.

Around 1am the stolen vehicle drove directly at four people who were walking on Bankswood Drive forcing them to run off the road to avoid being hit.

Police were able to track the ute using GPS from a stolen mobile phone that was in the vehicle. Polair tracked the ute north on the Bruce Highway to Caloundra before returning to the highway and heading south.

At 2.40am the vehicle was travelling southbound on the Bruce Highway at Caboolture when it left the highway and travelled across the grass verge onto Old Toorbul Point Road. The driver lost control of the vehicle causing it to roll and crash into the front yard of a property.

The driver then stole a Toyota Landcruiser 4WD from a nearby residence and drove towards Bribie Island.

At 3.05am police successfully deployed a tyre deflation device on the eastern side of the Bribie Bridge. The vehicle stopped on Verdoni Street in Bellara and the man forced entry into a nearby house where he was arrested by police shortly after.

The 30-year-old Carina man was transported to hospital for treatment of leg injuries he sustained from a police dog during the arrest.

Investigations are continuing.
